Matt's Story

Matthew Quinn

Hi, my name is Matt and I live in my own home in the east end of Glasgow.  I have a lot of friends, a close family and a busy social life.

I am a member of the Board of Directors of C-Change.  With the other Directors we make decisions about how the organisation works.  I also represent the organisation at meetings and conferences.

I have received support from C-Change for coming on ten years and a lot has changed in that time.

I have a diagnosis of Aspergers.  This affects how I understand things and how I like things to be organised.

I used to think that people didn’t listen to me or try to understand me and sometimes I would feel really frustrated and get quite angry.

I have my own team who know me well and between us we usually work things out.

I receive a lot less paid support now than I used to because I have better things to do with my life.  I sometimes do consultancy work helping others who are experiencing the same difficulties I went through.

I understand what it is like to move on from institutional care into your own home and I have used this experience to help other people in the same situation.

I think it can help to hear from someone who has been in the same situation and who has got through it and taken control of their life.

I have lots of plans for the future and would like to share these with you.  Speak to you soon.

Matt
